I am married to a wonderful man and have two wonderful children, aged 13 and 11 with my youngest having complex special needs. These needs affect her fine and gross motor development, she is predominately non verbal and uses Key Word Signing and an IPad for communication, she is on a strict life long diet, is intellectually impaired and is incontinent.

I am a passionate believer in mainstreaming children with special needs and giving everyone a voice through AAC (Augmentative and Alternate Communication).  After 16 years working as an accounts clerk in a legal firm, I decided to utilise the skills that I had gained from raising my daughter with special needs and made a switch to become a Teachers Aide (Special).  I love working with the children and also being able to assist families and hopefully make their journey through school easier and more enjoyable.

My  daughter has complex communication needs.  I have been a hands on mother who has had a great deal of input into her AAC journey to date and who has helped program her Ipad for communication using the Touchchat App.

  1. Hello Dana, Your mother in law Pam sent me your blog to read, and I thank her for that. You have done a wonderful thing in writing your story for others to read. I am deeply touched by what you have done and are doing for your beautiful daughter. Yes I have seen her with her dad on their bikes and also pictures from Pam. If there is anything John or I can help you with don’t hesitate to ask. I am very proud of you both. Love and kisses. cousin Bev.xxxx
